Marcela Washington (she/her)

Marcela Washington is a joy-centered Black feminist, meditation guide, and seeker of a universal love language. She is a gentle spirit yet powerfully activated by the desire to heal and compassionately care for self and collective.  

Marcela is an LA-based celebrity personal trainer, physical and mental wellbeing practitioner, certified mindfulness & meditation instructor. As co-director of outreach & a contributing faculty member at The Lab of Meditation, her area of focus is on the development of active meditation practices as a way for individuals and communities to replenish energy, access resourcefulness, reclaim agency, and uplift joy. Currently, her work includes the cultivation of collective practice spaces in work places and positive emotions in mindfulness. She is also the founder of Melanin Workouts, an exercise community that centers Black Women’s health and fitness. 

Her training and qualifications include: B.A. International Affairs from George Washington University, Embodied Social Justice & Roadmap to Liberation Certificate Programs, 200 hr. Certified Meditation & Mindfulness Teacher from the Lab of Meditation, MNDFL Certified Mindful Instructor, David Treleavan’s Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness program, Rick Hanson’s Neuroplasticity Course, and a certificate in diversity, equity and inclusion in workplace communication and leadership from Heather Hayes’ Confidently Speak: Cultural Competency. 

Additionally, Marcela is an active co-heart member & Fire Steward for The Blacker The Brain, co-leader with the community building committee for the Food and Wellness Equity Collective, and a lifelong learner with The TeachOut – an open learning community. 

She is the sister of 6 siblings and daughter of a brilliant, loving mother. Marcela resides in California with her two adult children, Aristotle and Cherokee and her husband David.
